ADA and Lodging Webinar Series

Speaker: Marian Vessels, Director, Mid-Atlantic ADA Center

The Department of Justice regulations clarify what a service animal is, but hoteliers still have many questions about how to appropriately serve individuals traveling with service animals. You will learn about handlers' responsibilities and hotels' obligations: Who may have a service animal? How many service animals may one person have? Where can service animals go on the property? This session will also discuss the new regulations addressing miniature horses, and how they apply to the lodging industry. Learn what questions you can and cannot ask about service animals. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

Please join us for this virtual tour of systemic advocacy events taking place across our state. We will be hearing from NYS PIP Graduates in Buffalo, Albany and Long Island.  They will share information about several awesome advocacy programs in which they are involved.  Below is a bit of detail about each presenting Partner.

Dave Whalen is a 2007 PIP graduate, is the Statewide Project Coordinator for Niagara University’s First Responder Disability Awareness Training, and the Chair of the Town of Amherst’s Committee on Disabilities.  He will be discussing the Town Hall Training program and First Responders and Emergency Management.

Shameka Andrews, 2011 Partners graduate, will discuss her final partners project, Disability Empowerment Day, which is now in its 2nd year.  She will fill us in on how it got started and how you can get involved.

Bridget Cariello (PIP 2008), Marisol Getchius (PIP 2011) and Jessica Campbell (PIP 2012) will be with us to share “SANYS U, The School of Grassroots Advocacy”.  The SANYS U program is designed to increase the grassroots efforts of self-advocacy statewide, and develop regions where advocates truly understand choice, opportunity, rights and responsibilities.
