What Did You Work On: I met with local organizations and community members and conducted research to inform a community food agenda for the City of Niagara Falls. Hopefully, this agenda will support residents in leading sustainable food systems change through advocacy.
Summer Takeaway: I’m leaving Buffalo with a much better grasp on community organizing and the power of grassroots work. I’ve learned so much about the importance of building genuine relationships and a coalition of allies to support a network of change. I also have a new love for the city itself (and custard).
Why I Took The High Road: I took the high road because I wanted to apply my interests in grassroots change and community-based work. I was excited to have the chance to actually get involved with and see the power of tangible food justice work, even on a small scale.
Career Goals: I’ll see where life takes me, but I’m definitely still interested in working for a community-based nonprofit. Food justice is an area I have learned so much about this summer and would love to work in.
Shout Out: Shoutout to Tom Lowe, my incredible supervisor!
