Overview

August 13, 2024: 12:00-1:30PM (ET)

Ask any HR professional about their company’s HR model and you are likely to hear, “Our HR function is undergoing a transformation.” One impact of these transformations is the need to rethink how to develop HR professionals, especially early in career as technology has greatly impacted the function. There are evolving positions like HR Business Partners, HR Generalists and HR Shared Service and new skills and capabilities needed with the increased access to data and changing business dynamics. This working group will discuss how organizations are thinking about hiring and developing HR talent, especially in their first 2 years out of school, in the wake of these changes. Additionally, the ILR School’s Career Services Director, Anu Lyons, will provide perspective on what students are looking for in employment today.

Here are some potential topics of discussion:

Partner Perspective:

·        What type of entry level HR roles are companies offering? Are they part of a rotational program?

If so, what are the details of the program (length, number of rotations, etc.)?

·        What is the HR candidate recruiting profile?

·        How is your company providing HR learning & development to your entry level hires?

·        How do you determine placement into roles?

·        What are the metrics you use to determine success?

Student Perspective:

·        What are the best approaches to recruiting today’s students?

·        What types of opportunities are students looking for as they pursue employment?

This session is designed those who lead HR recruiting and/or HR Career Development for their companies.

Given that we limit the number of registrations to our working groups to allow for rich discussion and best practice sharing, we ask that you only register for a session if you will be able to attend for the duration. Prior to the session, attendees should give some thought to topic that will be discussed and come prepared to engage actively in the discussion. We also strongly prefer that participants be on camera during the session to allow for more engaging interaction. If for some reason after you sign up for the working group, something comes up, it would be great to get even a last-minute e-mail advising us that you cannot attend as we sometimes have a waiting list.
