Dr. James Hansen, the world's foremost climate scientist, will detail the harsh realities of the climate emergency and what needs to be done to address it.
Hansen and the scientific community have warned that global greenhouse gas emissions must peak this decade if we are to have any chance of stabilizing our climate and preventing runaway global warming. Yet 2012 set a record high of 39 billion tons of CO2 emissions due to the burning of fossil fuels, 58 percent above 1990 levels. If this level continues Superstorm Sandy showed us a glimpse of the future.Representatives from the labor movement will examine how they can play a more active role in shaping a meaningful response to this planetary crisis.
