During October 28-30, 2016, the Scheinman Institute conducted three classes in dispute resolution with faculty and students of the Wuhan University School of Law, China. Wuhan University is a public institution with 53,000 students, located in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province. It is a top ten university in China and a national research center. The School of Law has 2000 master students and 1000 undergraduate students, with 90 professors. The school has a Law Institute on Labor and Social Security.
The first session introduced comparative labor mediation and offered a simulation. The second session introduced comparative labor arbitration. The final session introduced the students to mock case simulations concerning discipline matters.
While in Wuhan, the team visited the Wuhan Municipal Labor Arbitration Center. We interviewed the Center Director, the Case Administration Manager, and a full-time career Arbitrator. The visit was facilitated by Xiaohui Ban, Lecturer at the Wuhan University School of Law. We were joined by Ms. Shuhong Yu, Director of the Labor and Social Security Law Institute at Wuhan University School of Law.
