Background & Previous Experience

Since 2005, Gerda van Roozendaal has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations and International Organization at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She is also a member of the General Management Board of the Dutch inter-university Centre for Latin American Research (CEDLA).

Van Roozendaal earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a specialization in International Relations, from the University of Amsterdam. From this university she also received her Ph.D. In 2001, she moved to Curaçao where she worked as a researcher, consultant and as the policy advisor at the Foreign Relations Department of the Dutch Antilles.

Current Research at ILR

Van Roozendaal’s research focuses on different aspects of international labor rights. During her time at ILR, she will be researching the consequences of labor clauses in U.S. trade agreements in terms of the effects on labor practices and on the legitimacy of U.S. trade agreements, with a special focus on Guatemala.
