On-Campus Housing:

University College Dublin offer on-campus accommodation to over 2,500 students.  Undergraduates may choose to live in one of the five residence halls available on the Belfield campus.  Under special circumstances, a student may be approved to live on UCD’s graduate campus in Blackrock, but we prefer that students live in Belfield where they will be in close proximity to the Quinn School of Business and their undergraduate colleagues.

The following residence halls are available in Belfield:

  • Belgrove:  The Belgrove residence offers 200 three bedroom apartments (including 26 double rooms).  Each apartment includes one bathroom, a kitchen and dining area.  Kitchens include a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and tea kettle.
  • Glenomena: The Glenomena residence offers 126 six bedroom apartments (including  4 single bedroom studios). Each student has their own bedroom/bathroom, a kitchen and dining area per apartment, a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and tea kettle.
  • Merville: The Merville residence offers 156 four bedroom apartments. Each apartment includes two bathrooms, a kitchen and living area per apartment, a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and tea kettle.
  • Roebuck Hall: The Roebuck residence offers 50 six bedroom apartments.  Each student has their own bedroom and bathroom, a kitchen and dining area per apartment, a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and tea kettle.
  • Roebuck Castle (with meal plan option):  The Roebuck Castle offers 10 apartments of 13 single bedrooms.  Each student has their own bedroom and bathroom.  Each apartment offers a shared kitchenette and lounge area with a cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, and tea kettle.  This residence hall also has an on-site coffee shop and exercise room.  This is the only residence hall that offers a meal plan (catered meals) of breakfast and dinner for 7.50 Euros/day.  Meals are offered in a private dining room at Roebuck Castle.

    Housing Fees:

    Housing fees vary according to which residence you select.  The fees for each residence will be listed on the UCD website at the time you enroll for housing. Please keep in mind that fees may be listed for the entire year, if so, please make the necessary calculation for a single semester.  Housing costs average approximately $5,500 USD/semester, but this will vary by residence hall and exchange rate!  Please see UCD Residences for accurate fees.  Your housing fees will include both a utility and insurance charge.  Housing fees must be paid in full at the time you move in.  UCD does not allow for an installment payment plan.  Housing charges are paid directly to UCD and will not be billed by the Cornell Bursar.

    UCD’s  on-line housing enrollment normally takes place in June. Students will be asked to pay a deposit of $750 USD at that time.   This deposit must be paid before your housing can be confirmed.  You may use a credit card for this charge. This deposit is refundable at the end of the semester less the cost of any damage or cleaning charges.

    Once housing has been selected, students can view their accommodation account online via UCD’s SIS website.    The accommodation menu is located in the information for students tap at the top of the page.  To view your accommodation account and to make payments online please click on pay residential fees. 

    Moving In:

    Students are allowed to move into the residence halls on the Monday or Tuesday before classes start, usually the first week in September.  The specific move-in date will be communicated to students early in the summer by University College Dublin and the ILR/UCD Semester in Dublin office.  Room keys will be available for pick-up at the reception desk of each residence hall until 10PM.  Please contact the residence before you arrive to arrange for key collection, and if possible, try to arrive between 9:30AM and 5:00PM.

    Furniture & Furnishings:

    Each bedroom contains a single bed and a duvet and pillow are provided.  Students must buy or bring their own sheets and towels.  Each bedroom also has a desk, chair, lamp and wardrobe/closet. 

    Kitchens are unfurnished and students must provide any specialty equipment such as woks, blenders, etc.

    Televisions are not provided although you can rent one from a variety of shops in the city of Dublin.  Students must pay a television license wish costs €160 for the year.  Licenses can be purchased at any post office.

    There are no phones in the residence halls.  Most students purchase their own cell phones.

    Meal Plan:

    All on-campus residences, except for the Roebuck Castle, are self-catering and contain a small kitchenette. No meal plan is available in these residence halls, but UCD does offer a large student cafeteria and a convenience store is located on the ground floor of the Merville complex.  Students are responsible for their own kitchen supplies and a basic set-up can be ordered through the Accommodations Office.  You may also purchase kitchen items upon arrival in Dublin at one of the department stores in the city center.

    Off-Campus Housing:

    Students have the option of choosing to live off-campus if they would like to live in the center of Dublin. Off-campus accommodations offer you the opportunity to live in the heart of a major international city within close proximity of restaurants, theatres, shopping, parks and a variety of other social and cultural attractions.

    All off-campus accommodations are located near the Dublin city-center and are a short bus ride from UCD. Apartments are furnished, self-catering and students usually share a bedroom.  Bedding and kitchen supplies are provided.  Like on-campus housing, TVs and phones are not provided.

    Off-campus apartments are within walking distance of bus lines, and commuting time to UCD ranges from 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

    The off-campus accommodations are not owned by UCD but they have been vetted by UCD to assure that all flats are in convenient and safe neighborhoods.

    All housing fees for off-campus housing are paid directly to the rental agents and not to UCD or Cornell.  Payment is normally made by wire transfer.  If you elect to live in off-campus housing, the rental agent will email you payment details.  All fees must be paid on or before you take possession of your apartment.  You will also be required to pay a one month deposit which will be refundable at the end of the semester, less any damage and cleaning fees.

    Electricity:

    Irish electrical current is 220 volts and their plugs are known as 3-pin flat.  Irish voltage and plug style is different from the US and Canada so you will need to bring or buy a voltage convertor and plug adapter.  Please note, plugs are different throughout Europe and you will thus need multiple adapters.  Convertors and adapters are often sold as sets which include all the adapters you will need.  They are available online and in stores that sell electronics.  Many US electronics have dual voltage capacity (ie. laptops, cell phones, iPods, etc.), however many items such as flat irons, electric razors, etc. require a voltage convertor.  Using these items without a convertor will likely destroy them!

Housing

If you are going abroad in the spring semester, you may cancel your housing contract.  To do so, you will need to submit your acceptance letter from the ILR/UCD Study Abroad Program to the Housing Office located in 206 Robert Purcell Community Center.
