Kevin Lin has studied labor and employment relations in China’s state-owned industrial enterprises, grassroots labor organizations, civil society and collective actions of rural migrant workers. His research across these topics is informed by an interest in understanding the seismic transformation of Chinese labor over the last three decades, and the role of workers and activists in shaping their conditions through the creation of labor organizations and participation in collective actions. As a visiting fellow at ILR, he will be re-examining the history of working class formation and the development of a workers’ movement in China between 1990s and 2010s.
