New international study on unions and immigrant workers
With grants from the Hans-Böckler Foundation, Carnegie Corporation and Public Welfare Foundation, Lee Adler and Lowell Turner have launched a two-year, four-country study of unions and immigrant workers -- in the U.S., Britain, Germany and France.
The topic is union strategies that aim to integrate immigrant workers, in the workplace and union as well as in the broader society. In the first year, the focus is on literature reviews for each country and specific case study reports, many of them written by colleague/experts in each of the four countries.
The second year is for follow-up as well as both national and comparative analysis. Since immigrant worker issues are increasingly significant throughout the global North, the hope is not only for sound academic analysis but also for mutual learning among unions within and across the four countries.
The project builds on relationships and contacts developed in the ongoing Transatlantic Social Dialogue, co-sponsored by ILR, the European Trade Union Institute and the Hans-Böckler Foundation.
