Union Days Kicks Off with Keynote by Randi Weingarten ’80
Cornell ILR's Union Days begins Tuesday, March 5, with "Unions, Labor, and Freedom of Expression," a presentation given by Randi Weingarten ’80, American Federation of Teachers President and the 2024 ILR Alice B. Grant Labor Leader in Residence.
The event will be held in 305 Ives Hall and begins at 4:30 p.m., with a live stream available via Zoom.
Weingarten is president of the 1.7 million-member AFT, representing teachers; paraprofessionals and school-related personnel; higher education faculty and staff; nurses and other healthcare professionals; local, state and federal government employees; and early childhood educators.
A leader on campus during her time as a student at ILR, Weingarten has participated in many ILR events over the years, including a podcast discussion and an eCornell Keynote, both with Alexander Colvin, Ph.D., ’99, the Kenneth F. Kahn ’69 Dean and the Martin F. Scheinman ’75, M.S. ’76, Professor of Conflict Resolution.
From March 4-7, Weingarten will teach a course on the ILR campus on the topic of learning how the levers of education, collective bargaining and political action can be used to address the problems facing working people and communities.
