“Worker Militancy” Series Continues Jan. 16
Some of the most significant labor-management issues of 2023-24 are being discussed by ILR alums, faculty and external experts.
ILR alumni, faculty and national experts are featured in the “Worker Militancy” eCornell Keynotes series continuing Jan. 16 with “Health Care Conflicts and Possible Solutions.”
The event begins at 1 p.m. ET and is free and open to the public. Register here.
Ariel Avgar, Ph.D. ’08, the David M. Cohen Professor of Labor Relations and senior associate dean for Outreach and sponsored research, and John August, director of Healthcare and Partner Programs at ILR’s Scheinman Institute, will be joined by Deanna Dudley, chief human resources officer of El Camino Health in Silicon Valley, California, and Rob Baril, president of SEIU Healthcare 1199NE, which represents caregivers in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
They will discuss:
- How workforce shortages, low pay, and lack of voice – especially for non-licensed workers – combined to help fuel a militant environment.
- How a rapidly changing and challenging delivery system in finance and technology complicated health care labor relations.
- Why an aging population and failures in health equity contribute to challenges and how they are being addressed by management and labor.
- How solutions can be shaped in an era of chaotic change and distrust.
