Climate Jobs Institute Launches First-ever Climate Jobs eCornell Online Certificate
We are excited to announce the launch of Climate Jobs: Building an Equitable, Resilient Clean Energy Economy, an online Cornell certificate!
As the climate crisis intensifies, its impacts are disproportionately felt by marginalized and working-class communities. But we also have an opportunity to pursue solutions that can create a more sustainable and equitable future. This certificate is designed to benefit a wide range of individuals, including union leaders, staff, and members, policymakers, government officials, environmental leaders, workforce development professionals, think tank organizations, and high-road clean energy leaders.
Throughout this certificate, authored by Zach Cunningham and Lara Skinner of the Climate Jobs Institute at Cornell’s ILR School, you will:
- Examine the causes and consequences of climate change, understanding how this global crisis exacerbates existing inequalities and poses significant challenges for diverse populations through a labor and equity lens
- Uncover the political and economic dynamics that shape climate policy, and analyze the roles of major business interests, government entities, labor unions and social movements in addressing the climate crisis
- Explore the principles and policy interventions underpinning the climate jobs approach, understanding how it can be harnessed to advance worker-centered and equitable climate solutions
The four courses are completely asynchronous, and you can expect to do three to five hours of work per week when courses are open. The courses are as follows:
- Climate Change, Inequality, and Just Transition, starting April 24th, 2024
- The Politics and Economics of Climate Change, starting May 22nd, 2024
- Foundations of the Climate Jobs Approach, starting June 19th, 2024
