Scheinman Institute Board Member Scott Buchheit To Receive Prestigious Groat Award
Noted arbitrator Scott Buchheit, M.S. ’77 will receive ILR’s 2025 Groat Award at the Groat and Alpern Awards on April 24 in New York City. The Groat and Alpern gala is the pre-eminent ILR alumni event attended annually by over 400 alums, friends of ILR and ILR faculty and staff.

Buchheit has been a full-time arbitrator since 1983 and has handled thousands of cases. His private sector cases have included professional sports, transportation, manufacturing, postal, newspaper, security, railroad, communication, utility, health care, service, food processing and entertainment industries. His public sector experience includes municipal, county, state, federal and school board grievance cases.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Scott earned his law degree at Temple University and lives in Lumberton, New Jersey.
A founding advisory board member of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, Buchheit established the Scheinman Scholars Graduate Scholarship to support the development of an inclusive next generation of neutrals in conflict resolution. He has also been involved in establishing a new introductory conflict resolution course at ILR for undergraduate students.
About the Judge William B. Groat Alumni Award
Judge William B. Groat (1899-1986) served as counsel to the New York State Joint Legislative Committee on Industrial and Labor Relations, where he played a pivotal role in founding the ILR School and drafting its charter.
The Groat Alumni Award was established in 1971 in honor of Judge Groat's vision and in tribute to his professional accomplishments, which culminated in appointment as justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Eleventh Judicial District.
