• University Settlement Society and The Door. Mediated disputes that arose when these two organization, formerly legally affiliated, opted to become separate entities after 20 years of operating together. Issues included seprating key staff, finances, programs, real estate, and more.
• MQ Foundation. Advised on creation of new foundation devoted to mental health research. Developed stragey for organization to more than double annual revenue in a single year.
Other clients include Young New Yorkers, RISE, MercyFirst, The Lark Theatre, Museum of Food & Drink.
JEWISH BOARD OF FAMILY & CHILDREN’S SERVICES New York, NY
Chief Executive Officer 2011 - 2020
The Jewish Board is the largest provider of social services in New York State, with a budget of $240 million and nearly 3,000 staff. The organization serves 45,000 people of all ages every year at 75 sites in all five boroughs of New York City and in Westchester. Accomplishments include:
• Awarded Gold Prize at the 2016 Nonprofit Excellence Awards for superior management.
• Mediated $75 million acquisition, after one of the largest New York City nonprofits declared bankruptcy. Combined staff (both union and non-union), programs, and cultures.
• Created subsidiary relationship with Alpha Workshops; divested subsidiary The Shield.
• Engineered financial turnaround, eliminating inherited $12.4 million deficit within two years.
• Increased investment portfolio from $47 million to over $100 million.
• Increased annual fundraising more than 20%, to record levels of more than $15 million.
• Upgraded IT infrastructure, including new electronic health record, business intelligence system, and more.
• Helped organization become more outcome-focused and data-driven, with management, clinical, and financial dashboards.
• Upgraded physical plant, opening or renovating more than a dozen new facilities.

CITY PARKS FOUNDATION New York, NY
Executive Director 2001 - 2011
Directed $12 million non-profit organization that improves neighborhood parks and communities throughout New York City. Supervised staff of 350. Presented community organizing, arts & culture, sports & recreation and education programs to over 600,000 people each year in over 750 parks. Doubled endowment, to over $15 million. Became New York City’s largest arts organization, presenting over 1,200 events annually. Transformed dozens of failing parks in all five boroughs. Worked closely with New York City Parks Department, Mayor’s Office, City Council and other elected officials.
THE BROOKLYN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC New York, NY
President 1995 - 2001
Managed one of the nation's oldest and largest community schools of the arts, with branches in central Brooklyn and Flushing, Queens. Saved school from impending bankruptcy and engineered five consecutive years of record enrollment and fundraising results. Launched and managed successful $2.5 million capital campaign to renovate historic brownstone school in Brooklyn. Built new facility in Flushing.

Supervised all marketing, public relations and corporate communications for one of the nation’s largest performing arts organizations. Created centralized marketing and in-house graphics department. Managed twelve person staff and oversaw more than $3 million of annual expenditures.

Deputy assistant and chief advisor to President. Supervised day-to-day activities of entire organization and consulted on all major policy and operational issues.
