David Caraballoso
David Caraballoso is the Vice President of the New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters. He was elected to this leadership position in December 2021 after having been appointed in June 2021 to fulfill the unexpired term of the previous Vice President. In this position, he is responsible for assisting in the operations of the District Council, which is comprised of over 20,000 members in nine local unions of varied trade specialties.
With close to 20 years of experience under his tool belt, David has built a successful career in the union. For nearly 15 years, David worked in the field as a rank-and-file member. In 2016, having proven himself on and off the field, David was elected president of Local 212. He also became a delegate and was hired as a business agent.
David began his career in the non-union sector working as a general foreman. Always wanting to join the union and follow in his older brothers’ footsteps, David was soon organized into Local 11 and then transferred into Local 157. From there, David worked his way from journeymen, to shop steward, to foreman.
In 2016, the Council created a new local for its concrete workers – Local 212, where David played an integral role in leading and developing the next generation of concrete workers.
As a result of working in the non-union sector, David knows firsthand the perils of non-union work. That’s why he’s dedicated his life in the union to combating unscrupulous contractors and unsafe working conditions. Hailing from a Cuban and Puerto-Rican background, David brings with him a fresh set of eyes and a different cultural experience that will help bridge gaps with the emerging worker. David is thrilled to be able to help members on a greater scale and level the playing field in the non-union sector.
David was born and raised in Manhattan Valley where he still resides with his wife and three children.
